Think Kit Prompt: Legacy. What do you want to be known for? Maybe you want to change the world. Maybe you just want to make the best cupcakes known to man. Go all in and give us the deep life-long goal, or share a smaller mission.
This is a tough one. It makes me really uncomfortable to think and write about what my legacy might be. But I guess that's the purpose of Think Kit, to push us to think in new and different ways.
So I’m going to answer this question of “what do you want to be known for" as directly as I can. For me, it come down to this...
To create opportunities for others.
A person’s legacy, I believe, should be tethered to what brings them joy. When we do things that bring ourselves joy we find that activity to be almost effortless. Seeing someone else walk through a door I helped open brings me joy. It’s ok if they don’t even know I had a hand in opening it. It’s not about the credit, it’s about the experience, the energy transfer. That door might lead to a new job, a new friendship, a new business, a new city.
So if I can look back at my life and see that I was able to create opportunities for others – to do what they love, to live richer lives, to grow and learn – then I know I will have lived the life I was meant to live. Hopefully in creating opportunities for others I will also model a behavior that inspires others to do the same.
