Happy Haiku Year!

December 31, 2014

Looking back at 2014

A restful past year
With things all in their places
Time for some chaos

One is not enough
I’ve doubled down on daughters
Life is twice as nice

2014 was perhaps one of the most stable and comfortable years of my adult life. For good or ill, there wasn’t a ton of change, with the big exception being the birth of my second daughter way back in January. Anyone who knows me well knows that I tend to get bored easily. That’s not to say that it was a bad year, just one that left me in a place where I am craving some excitement.

Here comes 2015!

Risking a great job
Time to start my own venture
Entrepreneur

Next year is gearing up to be an exciting and tumultuous one for me. In just one day I am launching my first effort to be an entrepreneur, along with a couple of great partners. While I’m not exactly going it alone, I will be the one most responsible for making the new business run. It seems a daunting task, but I’ve learned a lot while at SmallBox that I believe has prepared me to go out on a limb. Here comes Gravy Lab!

Two years of hard work
My first game hits the market
Time to be judged

In November of 2015 I will be Kickstarting my first board game. This has been a passion project of more than two years, and while my livelihood isn’t exactly on the line, my pride certainly is. I’m pretty excited about the prospect of having some of my creative work out in the world. Even if this one doesn’t take off, it will be a good experience to apply to one of our many other game ideas. Let’s hear it for Accidental Cyclops and Ascendant!

Six years in this house
It still doesn’t feel quite right
Time to make a home

I’ve been residing in a great old house in Irvington for just over six years now. It is our second house, and it has been an enormous upgrade from our first matchbox in Little Flower. That said, it isn’t everything we need it to be, so we’ll be back in the house buying game very soon. Our plan is to find another cool old house that needs a bunch of work, and then to make it our own. It is going to be a big project requiring an architect and a whole lot of contractors. Better them than me!

Today's prompt: "Write a haiku (or...multiple haiku!) about the past – whether it's a year ago, a decade ago, or from childhood. If you want to, give some background information about your simple scene. And then – write one that paints a picture of the present, or predicts the future."
