It's no secret that I'm a big foodie. I'm not super artistic or crafty, but cooking is my creative outlet. I love trying new recipes, and I especially love cooking for people that love to eat. I also deeply value the relational side of cooking and enjoying a meal with friends and family. Food is a connecting point- a great way to share life together. So- when I read today's question about what new traditions I want to start this year, naturally my ideas centered around food.
For 2013, I want to bring back the Sunday Dinner. Growing up, no matter how busy our weekends were, we made a conscious effort to have dinner together as a family on Sundays. My mom would make a super tasty meal and we would sit around the dinner table and just talk, laugh and enjoy each other's company. It was a great way to connect before heading into the week.
So here's my plan: one Sunday a month, (or maybe even twice a month!) my husband and I want to invite people into our home to "break bread" with us and our 2 girls. Whether that's family members, old friends we haven't seen in awhile, or new friends we want to get to know better, we want to establish a tradition of gathering at the dinner table, with great food, and connect with people. I hope to pass on my love for cooking to my daughters, as well as show them the importance of making time for others, to help them understand that we should never be so busy that we miss the opportunity to invest in and love on the people around us. I'm so looking forward to establishing this tradition in our family...now I just need to decide what's on the menu!
